The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an all-India examination. It is administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE committee on behalf of the National Coordinating Board-GATE, Department of Education, MHRD (Ministry of Human Resources Development), Government of India. The GATE committee comprises of faculty from IISc (Indian Institute of Science), Bangalore and seven IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology).
The GATE Exam
1. Candidates are required to appear in a single paper of three hours duration.
2. The examination is generally held from 09:30 hours to 12:30 hours on 2nd Sunday of February every year.
3. The results for GATE are usually announced on 15th of March.
4. GATE is conducted in 21 streams. These are

5. The question papers are in English only.
6. To seek admission to a specific programme, candidate should choose right GATE paper. The choice of the paper is the responsibility of the candidate.
7. The criteria for postgraduate admission with Scholarship/ Assistantship are different in various Institutes/Universities. Candidates are required to contact the Institutes/Universities.
8. GATE score is valid for two years.
