GATE 2011 Pattern and Structure
1.     There was a single paper of three hours duration.
2.     The paper consists of 65 questions - 30 one marks and 35 two marks questions. An aptitude section comprising of 5 one mark and 5 two mark questions was also there. There were few questions on engineering mathematics.
3.     The paper carries total 100 marks.
4.     Details of GATE 2011 pattern is shown below in table:

a)  The answer to the second question of the last two pairs will depend on the answer to the first question of the pair.
b)  If the first question in the linked pair is wrongly answered or is un-attempted, then the answer to the second question in the pair will not be evaluated. Each question will carry two marks.
c)  There will be negative marks only for wrong answer to the first question of the linked answer question pair i.e. for Q.52 and Q.54, 2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. There is no negative marking for Q.53 and Q.55.

5.     The cut off marks for qualifying GATE 2011 (in most streams) was –
1)     25 for the general category
2)     22.5 for OBC
3)     16.67 for the SC/ST/PH categories
